In four days I will be on a plane to Joao Pessoa, Paraiba in Brasil. I was fortunate enough to be working on a grant for STEM (Science Technology Education and Mathematics), and will be doing research within the realm of Human-Computer Interaction. I will be attending with a handful of other students from the SUNY system, mostly from SUNY Oswego. Feelings of both excitement and fear are on the forefront of my mind when I think about the experience, which I hope is a positive one.
The most terrifying part for me is the thought that I am not going to be successful at the work I must do when I am there. Not the language barrier, or the 60 days away from home, or the cultural differences, or having to ride a bus everyday to the university, or the plane ride, or customs. No, these things are not worrying me, but the work-to-be is terrifying.
But, then again, it's only work.
This blog will be used to track A Hero Within's experience in Brasil. The ups, the downs and everything in between. Stay tuned for the first part of the trip, which will be the 5 hours of car time and the 13 hours of air time to get to Brasil.
